$20 per person rental includes:

  • UV Blacklight to fluoresce opal

  • Polycarbonate safety glasses

  • Digging tool

  • White light for safety/checking opal colour

  • Opal sample to know what you're looking for

  • Hiviz vest for safety

  • Guidance on where to go and how to find opal

  • Keychain blacklight for you to keep (dependent on availability)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When? Anytime after dark, or just as the sun's setting, every night (depending on our availability).

  • How long? As long as you like. Usually, people do 1 to 2 hours, but you can do shorter or longer, up to you!

  • Where? It's 1 minute drive from the main street of Coober Pedy. See map below

  • How much? $20 per person (see above for what's included)

  • What to wear/bring? We supply everything you need for opal hunting and your car will be parked nearby, in case you need to grab a jacket or bottle of water, etc

  • How to pay? Cash is easiest, but we can also do tap to pay, PayPal, etc if you've run out

  • What age? All ages really enjoy noodling for opal!

  • Max group size? We've supplied groups of 50, which are quite fun - just need a little notice to prepare

  • Will I find my fortune? You never know! Some have found some really nice and potentially valuable opalised fossil shells and seam opal. Luck definitely has a lot to do with it, but we'll give some tips to try and help!
